As part of the unveiling of Android 4.2 yesterday, Google introduced a brand-new input method on the stock Android keyboard called "Gesture Typing." Basically, it's Swype. If you don't know what Swype is, check out this video. Basically, you drag your finger to type instead of tapping. Here's Google's version in action:
If you're on a phone with a UI overlay that has the stock keyboard disabled (eg, Samsung TouchWiz, HTC Sense, Sony), you can just download the apk below- no root required. To install, make sure you have "install from unknown sources" enabled in your phone settings, and after installation, go into your phone's keyboard settings and enable "Android keyboard." Then, you can switch to the new keyboard. This may also work on some "stock" Android custom ROMs - but it will not work on stock Android builds distributed by Google. For instructions for Nexus devices running stock software, see the next paragraph.
Install Andoid 4.2 Stock Keyboard (with Swipe) on your Current Phone
If the apk doesn't work, you're running a phone that is either A.) running stock Android (as in, AOSP), or B.) running software that has the stock Android keyboard as an option, you'll need to download this ZIP file, and flash it in recovery. That also means you're going to need root. as you'll be writing to /system/apps. Before you do, though, either back up the stock keyboard (if you don't know how, you probably shouldn't be doing this) or create a full image backup, just in case. Here's that ZIP file:
If you ever get bored of the monotonous look of Gboard or your stock keyboard, this is the one that will refresh your typing experience. Besides colors and adaptive themes, Chrooma also has an extensive set of useful features, including gesture typing, AI-powered contextual word predictions, One Hand Mode, split layout, Night Mode, and many more.
As of now this only comes by default in the Jellybean 4.2 firmware but yes this can be very well ported to rest of the Android devices irrespective of your current firmware version. The only condition so as to accommodate this Jellybean 4.2 keyboard is to root your device. So, if your device is rooted, you are all set to install this jellybean 4.2 keyboard in your device. Through the rest of the process we will be guiding you on how to apply this firmware update.
Microsoft Launcher provides a new home screen experience that empowers you to be more productive across all your devices. Microsoft Launcher is highly customizable, allowing you to organize everything on your phone. Your personalized feed makes it easy to view your calendar, to do lists, and Sticky Notes on the go. When you set up Microsoft Launcher as your new home screen, you can either start fresh with your favorite apps or import your current home screen layout.
By default, the stock lockscreen app in Android 4.2 still uses the ring-shaped Slide unlock pattern that was introduced in Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, with each subsequent OS iteration simply following suit. The difference in the latest lockscreen app however, lies in the way it lets you unlock directly to your home screen, Google Now and the camera app. All three said features can now be accessed using totally different swipe gestures. For instance, to unlock to your home screen, just swipe the padlock icon towards any random direction you wish. On the other hand, the camera app can now be directly launched by swiping leftward from the right edge of the lockscreen, whereas Google Now can be accessed by swiping upwards from a dedicated button at the bottom-center of the lockscreen.
To initially activate the side-scrolling interface for the lock screens, you will need to swipe from the left or right edge of the device towards the center. Once this lockscreen navigation mode is activated, you can switch between different screens by swiping sideways from anywhere on the screen. By default, said mode remains active till your screen goes to sleep. However, it can be manually deactivated by hitting the padlock button at the bottom. Once it is tapped, the current lockscreen becomes your default lockscreen.
On-board securityWorried about security? Google's got your back: Android 4.2 includes a new multilayered security system that scans apps loaded onto your phone in real time. If you opt into the service, the system looks for malicious or potentially harmful code every time a new program shows up; it alerts you if there's any cause for concern.(The new feature focuses on apps obtained from third-party sources; apps downloaded from the Google Play Store have been automatically scanned and evaluated on the server side for some time.)The beefed-up security setup also watches for suspicious texting activity from installed applications; if one of your apps tries to send a text that'll cost you money, the system warns you before the message is allowed to go through.
Native gesture-typingWith Android, you're never stuck using the system keyboard (there's no shortage of excellent third-party options available), but as of the 4.2 release, you may not even feel the need to stray from the stock typing experience.Android 4.2 introduces a new and improved virtual keyboard that offers native gesture-typing, where you input text by sliding your finger from one key to another without ever lifting it. It's very much like what you get in Swype, a popular third-party Android keyboard application.Of course, you can still type the normal way, too -- and if you aren't thrilled with the new keyboard, you can still turn to alternatives like Swype, SwiftKey or TouchPal.
After rooting your Kindle Fire using the Kindle Fire Utility, the TWRP Recovery should be installed. By rebooting into TWRP Recovery Mode (run the Kindle Fire Utility and select 1 Bootmode Menu > 3 Recovery), you will be able to take a full, complete backup image of your tablet that can be restored later if something goes wrong or you don't want to continue with the stock Android ROM.
I just updated my Nexus 7 to Jelly-Bean 4.2, and it has the swipe keyboard which is awesome. I want to keep this feature of the stock android keyboard, but with the Dvorak keyboard layout. Is this possible?
The keyboard is also available for free in Apple's App Store for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices running iOS 8. Once it has been installed on your device, head to Settings, click on General, followed by Keyboard, and Add New Keyboard. There will be new Third-Party Keyboard section where you will find all of the custom keyboards you have installed on your device. Simply click SwiftKey and enable it. To make it your default, click Edit and drag it to the top of the list.
To change the keyboard, open the SwiftKey settings and select Languages. Under your selected language will be the name of your current keyboard and a small keyboard icon, click the icon, and choose your new keyboard. You can also change your language from this screen, SwiftKey allows for up to three languages to be installed at one time.
There are quite a few input methods in SwiftKey. You can choose between traditional typing on the keyboard, using your voice, or a gesture method known as Swiftkey Flow. The method is similar to the gesture-based typing feature found in Google's keyboard and third-party competitor Swype. Without lifting a finger, users can swipe over letters to complete a word.
For this to work, you'll need to be running One UI 2.1 (Android 10) or higher, and swipe typing can't be enabled. To check your settings, bring up your keyboard and tap the gear icon to the right of its menu bar. Scroll down and select "Swipe, touch, and feedback," then make sure "Keyboard swipe controls" are set to "Cursor control."
When we think of hiding an app on Android, we can think of is disabling, or uninstalling it. But it has major drawbacks such as all your app data will be deleted, and you will have to set the app from scratch. To avoid all that, you can hide apps on your Android phone or tablet without disabling using other methods shown in the post.

Android gives you loads of different options for each installed app, and on the whole this is a very good thing. Sometimes it can be a bad thing, though: you may find your phone playing up because a crucial app has been disabled, or you've changed the notifications for something important like emails. In the apps drawer, you'll find Reset app preferences under the settings. This resets all your apps on a global level, returning actions and data settings to their original levels.
