Base APK: How to Download and Install the Original Android Apps

Base APK Download: What Is It and How to Do It

Introduction

If you are an Android user, you probably know that apps on your device are installed as APK files. But do you know what an APK file is and what it does? And do you know what a base APK is and how it differs from other types of APK files? In this article, we will explain everything you need to know about base APKs, including their advantages and disadvantages, how to download them, how to install them, and how to extract them from app bundles.

base apk download

An APK file is the package file format used by Android for distributing and installing apps. It contains all the code, resources, and metadata that an app needs to run properly on your device. An APK file is essentially a ZIP archive that you can open with a file extraction tool like 7-Zip.

A base APK is a special type of APK that is the starting point for any modifications or customizations made to an app. Developers often modify or add features to the base APK, and then distribute the modified version as a new APK file. Base APKs are usually available on official app stores like Google Play, but they can also be downloaded from other sources, such as third-party app stores or directly from the developers website.

Using base APKs has some advantages and disadvantages. On one hand, base APKs can help you get access to the latest version of apps ahead of time, as well as apps that are not available on Google Play. They can also allow you to install apps on devices that are not compatible with Google Play services or have limited storage space. On the other hand, base APKs can also pose some risks, such as malware infection, compatibility issues, or legal problems. Therefore, you should always be careful when downloading and installing base APKs from unknown sources.

How to Download Base APK Files

<h3 From Google Play Store

The easiest and safest way to download base APKs is from the Google Play Store, the official app store for Android devices. To do this, you need to have a Google account and the Google Play app installed on your device. Here are the steps to follow:

  • Open the Google Play app and search for the app you want to download.

  • Tap on the app icon and then tap on the Install button.

  • Wait for the app to download and install on your device.

  • Once the app is installed, you can find the base APK file in the /data/app folder on your device. You can use a file manager app like ES File Explorer or Solid Explorer to access this folder. Alternatively, you can use an app like APK Extractor or ML Manager to extract the base APK file from the installed app and save it to a different location.

Note that some apps on Google Play are not distributed as single APK files, but as app bundles (AAB files). App bundles are a new format that allows developers to optimize their apps for different device configurations, such as screen size, resolution, language, or CPU architecture. When you install an app from an app bundle, Google Play will only download and install the base APK and the split APKs that are relevant for your device. This can save you bandwidth and storage space, but it also means that you cannot easily share or backup the complete APK file of the app. To extract the base APK and split APKs from an app bundle, you will need to use a different method, which we will explain later in this article.

From Third-Party Sources

If you cannot find the base APK you want on Google Play, or if you want to download it from a different source, you can also use third-party websites or app stores that offer APK files. Some of the most popular ones are APKMirror, APKPure, Aptoide, and Uptodown. However, before you download any base APK from these sources, you need to enable unknown sources on your device. This is a security setting that allows you to install apps from sources other than Google Play. To enable unknown sources, follow these steps:

  • Go to Settings > Security > Unknown sources and toggle it on.

  • A warning message will pop up, telling you that installing apps from unknown sources can harm your device. Tap on OK to confirm.

Now you are ready to download base APKs from third-party sources. Here are the steps to follow:

  • Open a browser app on your device and go to the website or app store that offers the base APK you want.

  • Search for the app and tap on the Download button.

  • Wait for the base APK file to download on your device. You can check the progress in the notification bar or in the Downloads folder.

  • Once the base APK file is downloaded, tap on it to open it. You may see a warning message that says "This type of file can harm your device". Tap on OK to proceed.

  • A screen will appear, showing you the permissions and features that the app requires. Tap on Install to start installing the base APK file on your device.

  • Wait for the installation to finish and then tap on Open to launch the app.

Note that some base APKs may also require additional split APKs or OBB files to work properly. Split APKs are similar to app bundles, but they are not generated by Google Play. They are usually used by developers to distribute large or modular apps that have multiple components or features. OBB files are expansion files that contain additional data or resources for an app, such as graphics, sounds, or videos. If an app requires split APKs or OBB files, you will need to download them separately and install them using a different method, which we will explain later in this article.

Another thing to note is that downloading base APKs from third-party sources can be risky, as they may contain malware or viruses that can harm your device or compromise your privacy. Therefore, you should always be careful when downloading and installing base APKs from unknown sources. Here are some tips to help you avoid malware and other risks:

  • Only download base APKs from reputable and trusted websites or app stores that have positive reviews and ratings.

  • Check the file size and name of the base APK before downloading it. If it is too small or too large, or if it has a strange name or extension, it may be fake or corrupted.

  • Scan the base APK file with an antivirus app before opening it. You can use an app like Malwarebytes or Avast Mobile Security to scan the base APK file for any malicious or suspicious code or behavior.

  • Read the permissions and features that the base APK file requests before installing it. If they seem excessive or irrelevant, you may want to cancel the installation or deny some of the permissions.

  • Backup your device data and settings before installing any base APK file. This way, you can restore your device to its previous state in case something goes wrong.

How to Install Base APK Files

Using an APK Installer App

If you have downloaded a base APK file that also requires split APKs or OBB files, you cannot install it using the normal method. You will need to use a special app that can handle these types of files and install them together. One of the most popular apps for this purpose is APKMirror Installer, which is developed by the same team behind the APKMirror website. Another app that you can use is SAI (Split APKs Installer), which is an open-source app that supports various formats of split APKs. Here are the steps to use these apps to install base APKs and split APKs:

  • Download and install the APK installer app of your choice from Google Play or from its official website.

  • Open the app and grant it the necessary permissions to access your device storage and install apps.

  • Tap on the Install APKs button and browse to the folder where you have saved the base APK file and the split APK files. You can also use the app to scan your device for any available APK files.

  • Select the base APK file and the split APK files that you want to install. You can also deselect some of the split APKs if you don't need them or if you want to save space on your device.

  • Tap on the Install button and wait for the app to install the base APK and the split APKs on your device.

  • Once the installation is done, you can tap on Open to launch the app or Done to exit the installer app.

Note that some apps may also require OBB files to work properly. OBB files are not installed like APK files, but they are copied to a specific folder on your device. To copy OBB files, follow these steps:

  • Locate the OBB file that belongs to the app you want to install. It should have a name like com.example.app.obb and a size of several hundred MBs or GBs.

  • Copy the OBB file to the /Android/obb folder on your device. If there is no such folder, create one.

  • Paste the OBB file inside a subfolder with the same name as the app's package name. For example, if the app's package name is com.example.app, paste the OBB file inside /Android/obb/com.example.app.

  • Launch the app and enjoy its full features and content.

Using ADB Commands

If you don't want to use an app to install base APKs and split APKs, you can also use a computer and a USB cable to do it via ADB commands. ADB stands for Android Debug Bridge, which is a tool that allows you to communicate with your device from your computer. To use ADB commands, you need to have ADB installed on your computer and enable USB debugging mode on your device. Here are the steps to do this:

  • Download and install ADB on your computer from .

  • Connect your device to your computer with a USB cable.

  • Go to Settings > Developer options > USB debugging and toggle it on.

  • A dialog box will appear on your device, asking you to allow USB debugging. Tap on OK to confirm.

Now you are ready to use ADB commands to install base APKs and split APKs. Here are the steps to follow:

  • Open a command prompt or a terminal window on your computer and navigate to the folder where you have saved the base APK file and Always backup your device data and settings before installing any base APK file. This way, you can restore your device to its previous state in case something goes wrong.

  • Always read the permissions and features that any base APK file requests before installing it. If they seem excessive or irrelevant, you may want to cancel the installation or deny some of the permissions.

  • Always scan any base APK file with an antivirus app before opening it. You can use an app like Malwarebytes or Avast Mobile Security to scan the base APK file for any malicious or suspicious code or behavior.

  • Always use a reliable and compatible app to install or extract base APKs and split APKs. You can use an app like APKMirror Installer or SAI to install them, or an app like App Bundle Extractor or AAB Extractor to extract them.

  • Always choose the appropriate device configuration for extracting base APKs and split APKs from app bundles. You can use an app like Device Info HW or CPU-Z to check your device specifications, such as screen density, language, or CPU architecture.
